A little bit about our sailing history
Skills
Eight skills we acquired
- Let go. Nature is much stronger than we ever can be. Become part of nature and let the wind carry you home even if it is a 50-knot storm.
- You cannot direct the wind, but you can adjust your sails.
- When tough, don’t seek the coast, be brave and get out – away from where the waves break.
- Learn as much as you can about the terrain where you sail and about the animals you may cross. Or better not cross bet drag along.
- Thank the universe or whatever you believe in when you eventually tie up at the next marina.
- One of the greatest moments includes:
1) When you get out of the marina, and you turn off the engine
2) When you see nothing but water around you. Get offshore.
3) When you are in a starry night, 100 nautical miles from anywhere.
4) When large schools of dolphins accompany you. - You cannot TRY a circumnavigation. Once you did, you realized that was it.
- You truly sail once you recognize that sailing is neither a sport nor a hobby. It’s a mindset.
You may notice that knots, navigation, and sailing theories are not on that list ;)
