A little bit about our sailing history

Skills

Eight skills we acquired

  1. Let go. Nature is much stronger than we ever can be. Become part of nature and let the wind carry you home even if it is a 50-knot storm.
  2. You cannot direct the wind, but you can adjust your sails.
  3. When tough, don’t seek the coast, be brave and get out – away from where the waves break.
  4. Learn as much as you can about the terrain where you sail and about the animals you may cross. Or better not cross bet drag along.
  5. Thank the universe or whatever you believe in when you eventually tie up at the next marina.
  6. One of the greatest moments includes:
    1) When you get out of the marina, and you turn off the engine
    2) When you see nothing but water around you. Get offshore.
    3) When you are in a starry night, 100 nautical miles from anywhere.
    4) When large schools of dolphins accompany you.
  7. You cannot TRY a circumnavigation. Once you did, you realized that was it.
  8. You truly sail once you recognize that sailing is neither a sport nor a hobby. It’s a mindset.

You may notice that knots, navigation, and sailing theories are not on that list ;)
